Weather-Aware Navigation
Orca is a powerful weather-aware navigation tool that runs on all your devices and seamlessly integrates with your existing onboard electronic systems.
In November 2024 Orca approached me and asked if I would do a video review of their navigation system. I agreed and was sent their Core 2 and Display 2 units for free. I was also given a free subscription to their Smart Navigation Plan.
Over the next few months I plan to use the Orca system as my primary navigation aid as I continue winter sailing around the West Coast of Scotland and will post my review on YouTube in spring 2025.
My first impressions are very positive, the core has seamlessly integrated with my existing Raymarine STNG network, the GPS is very accurate and the Display 2 unit is well built, bright and the battery lasts much longer than my iPad running Navionics.
But what I like best so far is the way it plans a route based on weather, wind and tide and once underway it keeps an eye on the weather and sends real-time alerts if forecasts change.
